God Bless America?

"While the storm clouds gather far across the sea,
Let us swear allegiance to a land that's free,
Let us all be grateful for a land so fair,
As we raise our voices in a solemn prayer."

God Bless America,
Land that I love.
Stand beside her, and guide her
To the right with a light from above.
From the mountains, to the prairies,
To the oceans, white with foam
God bless America, My home sweet home.

Written by Irving Berlin and made famous by Kate Smith, ‘God Bless America’ has become a national icon since 9/11/01, often seen as a bumper sticker on cars. While it is a great sentiment and shows a wonderful patriotic streak, I think it is a hollow and shallow request.

America was once a nation that drew its’ primary culture from Godly teaching. While not every person was a Christian, it was understood that God’s principles were the basis for a moral and decent society. We have left that thinking far behind…

The Ten Commandments

1. You shall have no other gods before me

2. You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below...for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing love to a thousand [generations] of those who love me and keep my commandments.

3. You shall not misuse the name of the LORD your God, for the LORD will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.

4. Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.

5. Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you.

6. You shall not murder.

7. You shall not commit adultery.

8. You shall not steal.

9. You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.

10. You shall not covet your neighbor's house. You shall not covet your neighbor's wife, or his manservant or maidservant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor."

What part of this do we not understand??

Inaugural Post

So, this is new to me. I have never even kept a journal before but it's time to put some of my thoughts down where I can share them. Being on the road all the time, I have lots of time to think and mull things over. I don't profess to have it all figured out, but I hope to have good things to say.
